Carmelo Lives Up To Expectations
written by April 15th, 2008 ,ktweezee

What can you say? Once a moron, always a moron. The trouble that Carmelo got into yesterday morning is not one to laugh at. However, Carmelo himself is a joke. Read the short ESPN article out. Done? Ok, did you see that his fiancee refused to pick him up after he was pulled over for the DUI? Also, did you not snicker when the article said Allen Iverson was standing next to him during his apologetic statement. Allen Iverson? Are you kidding me? There has got to be someone else you can find to uplift your public image right? Couldn’t you find Charles Oakley, Anthony Mason or someone more humane? So, whats next Melo? Distribution of banned substances to minors while driving an ice cream truck?

Also, note that The Sports Trunk will be moving to couchlete.com.

March 30-2008

As we normally say-another fantastic week in sports.

  1. The Final Four is established: UCLA, Kansas, Memphis, & North Carolina. All regional number 1 seeds. There were a lot of upsets in this years awesome tourney, but the top teams prevailed showing that rankings aren’t always flawed. My pick to win it is Memphis. Big stunner huh?
  2. Bigups to Davidson, it came down to a last shot to stop them from reaching the Final Four. Let’s not play down their great run this year.
  3. As of today, the Warriors, Nuggets, and Mavs are tied for the 7/8th in the playoff hunt. Damn wild. My guess is the Mavs drop to 9th due to lack of firepower. Not only is Dirk out, Stack also has an injury. My hope, is that the Nuggets show the real team that they are an lose the rest of their road games.
  4. Saturday night, Frank Shamrock goes down just like Liddell, Ortiz, Ken Shamrock, Matt Hughes, Rich Franklin…. the new school is in and they’re bad ass. Even the up and comers like Alexander Houston and Kimbo Slice are exciting as the title holders, Anderson Silva, GSP, Rampage….
  5. Chris Webber retires - as a result, hmmm. shows nothing really. He did however, have quite the rollercoaster career. Timeout technical, ROY, Washington Bullets, Sacramento Kings playoff runs, pine riding in Philly, Piston’s contributor but denied by Lebron, 5 game $600,000 year at Golden State. What’s next though? Teaming up with Jalen on color commentating?
  6. The Bosox and the A’s played regular season games in Japan and now come back to play preseason games in the states. Doesn’t make sense, of course nothing Selig is involved in does.

   Another Shamrock Plucked

Forgive me if I sound bitter and rude, but my favorite squad, the GS Dubs dropped a huge game to Denver Thuggetes. Damn, do I hate that stupid team. I hate the make up of it, the arrogant thugs that they’re composed of.

Anyways, I digress. What I want to discuss is the upset in the Battle of the Bay MMA. I say upset because Cung Le has a pretty young MMA record. He spent a lot of time competing and dominating in Sanshou. This is where he gathered fans and momentum. When he crossed over to Elite XC, there were a lot of doubters who said things like he was soft. Sure, he never suffered a broken nose in Sanshou, but when he stepped in the MMA game, he showed the MMA world a unique fighting style with his spinning backhands, his combination kicks and his precise punches. Before you call me a jockstrap, I will say that I believed Le was going to suffer a loss to Frank Shamrock and I am just as surprised as everyone else.

Le brought his ‘A’ game, pardon the cliche. In this ‘A’ game, Le was able to keep the fight off the mat, where he hasn’t been in his MMA career. In the end, Shamrock suffered an arm injury from blocing a high kick and was rushed to the hospital for more examination and treatment. Big damage done by a soft guy. It’s a little disappointing though, I thought Shamrock was going to show another good fight building off the impressive beating of the explosive Phil Baroni. I figured Shamrock would control the striking the same way he did then to Le’s ability. Unfortunately, as normal with two elite competitors, the fight was a little slow until the third round where some excellent striking was exchanged.

Big ups to Cung Le, shuttin everyone up, including myself.

   Shout out to Davidson College

Davidson knocks off the Zags. Fluke, the Zags weren’t that good anyways this year. Davidson takes down Hibbard and Georgetown. Won’t happen again. The Badgers get hunt down by Davidson College. Who the hell is Davidson? Do they even have a mascot? They do, he’s called, Mr. Cat. Lame, I know. But, their 2008 tourney run has been nothing but lame. Led by Stephen Curry and his 30+ scoring, the Wildcats have reached the Elite Eight, as of this posting. If Curry sounds familiar too you, its probably because you used to watch his gray haired pops lazer in threes on a nightly basis. He did it for so many years because he never used any effort in dropping the long distance shots. His son Stephen is a sophmore and I assume is impressing the scouts day by day. That being said, he only received offers from Davidson, Winthrop and a couple of other small schools. VT offered him a glamorous walk on spot-come on, you stink at hoops, VT. Nonetheless, he has made a name for himself and if the next level is the NBA-after the tourney of course, he would have a great career if he produces anything like his pops did. Big ups to Davidson and their great run!

   Accurate and deadly golfer

Check this story out . Its too bad what happened, because I love hawks and eagles-you know, predatory birds. Sick. Anyways, this fool was shooting an instructional video while a hawk was disturbing the footage with sounds. Annoyed, he aims to hit the bird from 300 yards out. He fails. But when the hawk gets close, like 100 yards away, he takes a couple more shots at it and kills the poor hawk. Whats worse, is the hawk is a protected animal in Florida so he faces community service and fines. I’m not advocating killing animals, but if it were a pigeon or something go ahead. But, pigeons can make that much noise….
